A light switch with a dimmer on the same plate is the cleanest way to run a room with layered light: dim the pendants, switch the overhead, all from one solid brass plate. One plate instead of two or three also keeps the wall quieter, which matters most in kitchens and living rooms where switches sit at eye level. These dimmer and switch combos pair push-on rotary dimmers with knurled brass toggles on 2, 3 and 4-gang plates, in Unlacquered, Aged or Satin Brass, sized for standard US boxes.
Choose your dimmer and switch layout
| Plate | Layout | Typical room |
|---|---|---|
| 2-gang | 1 dimmer + 1 toggle | Bedroom, dining room |
| 3-gang | 1 dimmer + 2 toggles | Kitchen, entry |
| 3-gang | 2 dimmers + 1 toggle | Living room, open plan |
| 4-gang | 1 dimmer + 3 toggles | Kitchen with island |
| 4-gang | 2 dimmers + 2 toggles | Great room |
| 4-gang | 3 dimmers + 1 toggle | Living and dining combined |
Want a different order on the plate? The Build Your Own plate lets you set the number of gangs and dimmers yourself. For dimmers only, see all rotary dimmer switches; for toggles only, see toggle light switches.
Dimmer and switch FAQ
Which lights should go on the dimmer?
Put the lights you want to set a mood with on the dimmers: pendants, chandeliers, dimmable recessed lights. Keep exhaust fans, closets and lights you only switch on and off on the toggles.
Do the dimmers work with LED bulbs?
Yes, with dimmable LED from 3W to 100W per dimmer. Our guide to dimmer switches for LED lights explains how to avoid flicker.
Do I need a neutral wire?
The single pole rotary dimmer needs a neutral wire in the box. Ask your electrician to check the box before you order. The plate, knob and levers are the same solid brass either way.
Can a combo plate include a 3-way switch?
Yes. Each layout in the table above is offered in a 3-Way type. See all 3-way switches and dimmers.
Will it fit my existing box?
Yes, as long as the box has the same number of gangs as the plate. Every plate is drilled to standard US spacing.
